Sixth Annual Helper's Fund Tournament
" ... A Blast!"

Check out this group! Why the pose? Martha Walker, left; Lisa Montgomery Bolton, top center and Sue Huck, right, gather round Pam Greco who had a hole-in-one during the Helper's Fund's 6th Annual Golf Tournament
As one golfer said, "we just had a blast out there!" Besides the winning teams, there was quite a bit of excitement on the eighth hole, a par-3 125 yard hole, as Pam Greco's tee shot rolled into the cup. The screaming and hollering was heard in downtown Chestertown, and one of the foursome was heard to say, "I almost... ." (Never mind what she said).
Winning Foursomes
The foursome of John Palermo, Teri Palermo, John Christopher Palermo and Rich Greco took first place honors, by one stroke ahead of the team of Nicholas Amodeo, Jr. (we missed you this year, Nick!), Alan Amodeo, Joyce Amodeo and Bill Murray. The team of Mark Davidson, Stan Ellsworth, Gary Millington and Ray Smith, Jr., took 3rd place honors 2 strokes behind the winners.
Fun Contests
Before the start and after the conclusion of the tournament, a number of contests took place. Pictured at right is Gary Vanderwarker, coaxing his putt to go toward the hole during the putting contest. A pitching contest was also held.. There were first, second and third place winners in each of the contests.
Winning Rewards
Participants winning during the golf tournament, at the pitching and putting contests before and after the actual tournament, as well as closest to the pin and in the fairway contests during the course of the tournament, were awarded cash prizes. Other contests, including the after lunch raffle, which featured gift certificates for two to area golf courses, were certificates rather than cash.
Courses Featured
Some of the courses where golf certificates were part of the raffle were: Saratoga State Spa Course, Highlands Golf Club, Craig Wood Golf Club, as well as Whiteface Inn Golf Club and Lake Placid Club Golf Resort all in Lake Placid, Kingswood Golf Club, Queensbury Golf Club, Cronin's Golf Resort, Green Mansions Golf Club, Westport Golf Club, Battenkyl Golf Club, 1000 Acres Golf Club and Airway Meadows Golf Club. The after lunch raffle is always one of the highlights at the tournament.
Food For All
Of course the breakfast and lunch are also one of the highlights of the tournament. There was a full breakfast before the golf, which included eggs, sausage, muffins, toast, bagels, lox, cream cheese, coffee, tea and juice. Lunch was a choice of pork chops or chicken breast marinated in a mushroom wine sauce. The food was ably handled by Martha Walker's crew, which included Jaime Wallace, and Barbara Davidson, and ably served by Martha, Mary Matrose and Teri Palermo. The bar was perfectly supervised by Tina Millington. Refreshments were on the course at all times during the tournament.
