2006 Scholarship Program Awards
Eight Scholarships & Awards

Due to increased donations to the Scholarship Fund, and a reevaluation by the Board of Directors, the Fund was able to award three new Science Scholarships, three new Helpers Fund Awards, and two renewal scholarships this past June. It was a record number for the Fund and brought to almost 30 the number of recipients of the program since its beginning five years ago.

The Scholarship Committee and the Board of Directors were faced with the problem of making choices between a number of excellent candidates. "It was a difficult problem," said Carl Lamm, director of the Fund, "but I think everyone agreed that since the financial situation was okay, why not grant all those that qualified?"

Funding For The Program
The Scholarship Fund receives its funding from the 60/40 Scholarship Raffle. The Board of Directors also authorizes $500 each year for the program from the Operating Budget. Until recently these were the only two sources of funding. But, there have been donations made by individuals directly into the Scholarship Program, some of these as memorial donations and others designated specifically for awards or scholarships. And this source has been increasing each year. The program now serves North Warren Central School and Schroon Lake Central School with Warrensburg Central School being included this year as well.

GE (General Electric) Foundation
The Fund is now the recipient of matching funds from the GE Foundation. Former employees and current employees of General Electric may make contributions to the Fund, and indicate to the Foundation they want the matching funds to go to the Helpers Fund.
Former GE employees or retired employees wishing to have their donations matched by GE will need to register with the GE Foundation. Contact www.gefoundation.com then click on "Matching Gifts Program," and while on that page click on "Gift Matching Process."
